PlugPane alternatives: what to use if you cannot reach it

Checked on 2 November 2026 by Sonisto, which makes one of the apps on this page. Every fact about another app comes from its developer’s own website, linked below, and every price is as that site listed it that day.

PlugPane’s website, plugpane.com, answered with a not-found error when we checked on 2 November 2026, so we could not confirm its current version or price, and we do not know whether that is temporary. When we last read it, on 8 October, it was a Mac app, pay what you want with $4.99 suggested, still in beta, offering tags, switching plugins on and off and a one-click updater. The closest replacement depends on which of those you used it for.

Pick by what you used PlugPane for

Tags

PluginHub lets you put your own tags on top of its eleven categories, and ProducerGrid lists tag and organize among its features. Sonisto has no tags.

Switching plugins on and off

Pluginize! on Mac does this per format and includes single Waves and UAD plugins. Plugoff, on Mac and Windows, moves unused plugins to a vault folder and back.

Updates from inside the app

PluginHub is the nearest: it installs updates inside the app for nearly 60 vendors, and checks 357.

Something cheap for duplicates and serial numbers

VST Manager is a one-time $4.99 on Mac, works offline and has a licence vault.

A list of everything you own

Sonisto, OwlPlug and KVR Studio Manager all give you that free, on Mac and Windows.

Before you switch

If you switched plugins off with PlugPane, they may no longer sit in the usual plugin folders, and a new scan only finds what is in the folders it reads. Check before you trust a new list. Our guide to where plugins are stored lists the usual locations.

Where Sonisto fits

Sonisto’s free plan covers one computer, one scan a month and update notifications for 10 plugins. Basic adds a second computer, 20 scans a month, update notifications for every plugin, a vault for serial keys, comparing computers and exporting your library. Pro raises that to 10 computers and unlimited scans. A yearly Pro subscription comes with 12 plugins to keep on the day you join.

Sonisto tells you an update exists and links to the installer; it does not install updates for you, apart from freeware and a few selected brands. It has no tags and no way to switch a plugin off, and it can only uninstall plugins it manages itself.

Questions

Is PlugPane discontinued?

We do not know. Its website answered with a not-found error on 2 November 2026 and we found no announcement from the developer. Check again before you assume it is gone.

Does PlugPane run on Windows?

It did not when we last read its site. It was a Mac app for macOS 12 or later.

What is the closest free alternative?

For a plain list of your plugins, Sonisto’s free plan, OwlPlug or KVR Studio Manager. For moving unused plugins out of the way, Plugoff, which is free for now.

Will my tags carry over?

We know of no tool that imports them. Keep a copy of your list before you remove anything.
